NEW DELHI, March 18 – Three Indian boxers reached the quarter-finals of their respective weight categories on Saturday, keeping the hosts’ hopes alive from the Mahindra IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. The hope of a bountiful medal.
In the round of 32 in the 48kg category, Nitu Gang defeated South Korea’s Doyeon Kang. In the 54kg category, by contrast, Preeti edged out Romania’s Lacramioara Perijoc 4-3 in Saturday’s other round of 32 bout.
Manju Bamboriya joined her two compatriots in the pre-66kg quarter-final match, which ended with a unanimous 5-0 decision over New Zealand’s Cara Wharerau.
Preeti started her campaign in the event on Thursday with an RSC win over Hungary’s Hanna Lakotar in the 54kg first round.
India’s top women’s boxers Nikhat Zareen, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Nupur Sheoran and Shashi Chopra have all advanced to the next round in their respective weight classes in their third event in India.
