The opening episode of Ted Lasso season 3 revealed that Roy Kent and Keeley Jones are no longer together, but developments have left many asking why they broke up.
Things are changing for Ted Russo’s new season, with AFC Richmond returning to the Premier League and finding themselves in the middle of a rivalry with Nathan “Wonderboy” Shelley’s West Ham as the now The grizzled coach has been hired by the scheming Rupert Mannion as their new manager.
When the rivalry started brewing, Roy Kent and Keeley Jones revealed that they had broken up and were closer to home, much to the horror of Phoebe and fans alike.

After planting the seeds of doubt in the final few episodes of Season 2, it was revealed that Apple TV+ series power couple Roy Kent and Keeley Jones are no longer together.
The start of the new season seems like little has changed between the two, except that Keeley now runs his own PR firm, and in an early conversation with Rebecca, Keely explained that she and Roy will be talking to Roy that night niece Phoebe.
Of course, “talk” could be referring to something, but as the decisive scene rolls around, it’s clear they’re not discussing birds and bees.
After treating Phoebe to a big serving of ice cream, Roy and Keeley reveal they’re no longer together.
However, there were some crossed lines between the two, as Keeley explained they were breaking up and Roy was outspoken about their complete breakup.
Why did Keeley and Roy break up?
When Phoebe asked why Roy and Keeley were no longer an item, Roy replied that they were too busy at work to be in a relationship anymore.
Roy went on to explain that while Keeley’s time and energy were spent running her PR firm, he now has more work to do as he oversees Richmond’s strategy following Nate’s departure.
When Roy drives Phoebe home, she asks him if he thinks they’re doing the right thing, before saying she thinks he’s stupid for breaking up with Keeley.
While Roy says their recent career change has hindered their relationship, there may be more to their breakup than that.
Season 2 teases their split
At the end of season 2, Roy plans to go on vacation with Keeley, but she turns him down so she can focus on her work, and most importantly, Roy admits that not having a magazine photo shoot with her hurts his “Feel” .’
So Roy probably thinks Keeley is better off without him, since Keeley’s own career is taking off, especially when he thinks she looks a lot more natural in photos—she’s the independent Keeley Jones, after all.
Of course, the breakup also heralded the possibility of a love triangle forming after Jamie Tartt admitted he still had feelings for Keeley in the final few episodes of season 2.
But one thing we do know is that once all the episodes are done, everything in Ted Lasso will work out, though not necessarily in the way we expect.
Season 3 of Ted Lasso will be on available for streaming Streaming on Apple TV+ starting Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
