Zion Biography

Who is Zion?

The 48-year-old, who identified himself as Zion, fell ill on May 13 last year and had a splitting headache eight days after receiving his first injection at Penrith Auction Mart in Cumbria.

Sadly, he later died on 19 May at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVI) in Newcastle upon Tyne.

An inquest at Newcastle Coroner’s Court yesterday learned how his condition had deteriorated significantly in the days after he developed headache symptoms.

A paramedic was first called to Zion’s home in Alston, Cumbria, on May 15, 2021, and gave evidence at the inquest, saying Zion was “alert and sat up” when he arrived.

She told the hearing that she advised Zion to go to the hospital for more tests, but he said he didn’t want to go because he was afraid of contracting the coronavirus.

The paramedic added that she didn’t receive official guidance on AstraZeneca’s vaccine and its rare potential risks until around July.

The inquest also heard from Zion’s fiancee and partner of 21 years, Vikki Spit, who said paramedics were “firm” that the migraine had nothing to do with the vaccine and they all “believed” him.

She added: “I am ready to go to hospital if advised.”

Paramedics denied Ms Spit’s claims.

A subsequent clinical review of the handling of the first ambulance call by the North East Ambulance Service concluded that the ambulance staff had made a “thorough assessment” and had “no problem”.

Two days later, on May 17, another paramedic arrived at Zion’s home, describing him as “confused and uninhabited.” Zion then suffered a minor seizure and was taken to Carlisle Hospital by ambulance.

He was subsequently referred to the RVI and authorised to the hospital with the intention of immediate surgery.

Who does surgery in Zion?

When he arrived, neither of his pupils responded to light, said Damian Holliman, a neurosurgeon who operated on Zion. At this point, Zion suffered a brain hemorrhage that caused him to swell and later underwent surgery.

Holliman said he was “fully aware” that Zion’s blood clot “was the result of his recent vaccination.”

The inquest heard Zion had a “limited medical history” and suffered from “rare and aggressive complications”.

Asked if he thought the AstraZeneca vaccine was a direct result of Zion’s complications, Mr Holliman replied: “I don’t have any other reason to think it’s something else” and that his thrombosis “is to some degree” related to vaccination”.

Two other RVI consultants also testified at the hearing and agreed with Mr. Holliman that Zion had a rare complication from the vaccine.
