Who is Michael Redfern?

Michael Redfern, the star of Oxo’s long-running TV commercial, has died at the age of 79, his son has confirmed.

Actor Michael, who appeared in the commercial with his on-screen wife Linda Bellingham, died last Friday of an illness at his home in Spain, his family announced.

The actor’s son Ashley paid tribute to his beloved dad when he told the Mirror: “Over the years he has had a variety of roles, including the soap opera United! classics such as The Two Ronnies, Porridge and Some Mothers Do Av ‘Em work.

“He is, of course, best known for his role in the Oxo commercial, where he did so for 17 years and became a much-loved figure in one of the UK’s most popular TV families.

“His wife Carol and his family will miss him dearly.”

Michael Redfern dies at his home in Spain at the age of 79.

Michael is best known for his role in Oxo’s Dad. The ad, with his signature mustache, ran on TV for 16 years between 1983 and 1999.

The actor appeared in the ad alongside Linda Bellingham, who played Oxo’s mother and Michael’s onscreen wife.

He previously said of working with Linda: “I’m a face, but she’s a name and a really good actress.”

In July 2013, Lynda, who appeared as a panelist for Loose Women, announced that she had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

She and a year later confirmed that she had a few more months to live in September 2014 after stopping chemotherapy in August of the same year.

Linda passed away on October 19, 2016, with her husband by her side.

In addition to his commercial success, Michael has appeared in several TV series and comedies over the years.

Michael has appeared in Young Detectives, Crossroads, Crime, Mama Makes Five, George and Mildred, Robin’s Lair, Young People, Dirty, Rich and Catflap, Gold for Favors and Fools: A Tale of the Marginal Heist.

Born in Isleworth, Middlesex, Michael has even starred in comedies like Man About the House with Richard O’Sullivan and Bless the House with Sid James ” and “Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em” with Michael Crawford.

He also appeared in an episode of EastEnders and Doctors, as well as the 1982 Christmas special Porridge and The Two Ronnies.

Michael’s IMDB page is full of TV shows, but he enjoyed his final years in the spotlight as a taxi driver before moving to Spain.

After the success of the Oxo campaign, he left the UK with his wife Carol and has kept a low profile.

Michael once told Dorset Echo his life after the Oxo ad: “In those years another job dried up because I had such a high profile.
