Jody Simpson Biography
Who is Jody Simpson?
Tony Hajel’s biological parents, Jody Simpson, 24, and Anthony Smith, 47, were sentenced to 10 years in prison in February 2018, but the couple only served five years.
That’s true despite Tony’s adoptive mother, Paula Hudgell, 54, winning tougher penalties for child molesters.
Tony, now seven, was rushed to hospital after his biological parents left him suffering for ten days with broken fingers and toes, torn ligaments and a sepsis infection.
Anthony Smith and Jody Simpson were found guilty of assaulting Tony when he was just 41 days old. They were sentenced to ten years in prison, but will be released soon after serving only five years.
When doctors first saw the baby, the baby was on the verge of death and his legs had to be amputated due to the extreme abuse he had suffered.
Ms Hudgell described Tony’s release from his abuser as “disgusting” and felt “like a punch in the stomach”.
She told the Mirror: “These monsters have only been in prison for five years and Tony faces the challenge of a lifetime because of his wickedness.
They don’t need to go to the parole board or show any remorse to walk freely. It’s like a punch, and it makes me sick that people who abuse babies and children can get away with it in a few years.
These monsters may live on your streets and you wouldn’t know it.
Simpson and Smith were automatically released halfway through their sentences, the harshest sentences they could accept at the time and the least amount of time they spent in pretrial detention.
According to Mrs Hudgell, Tony was “crazy” that they would soon be free and he wanted to join the police when he grew up to re-arrest them.
