Who is Darius Campbell Danish?

POP Idol contestant Darius Campbell Danesh has passed away at the age of 41, his family announced today.

The star, who continued to perform on stage, was found dead in her US apartment on August 11.

The cause of his death is unknown.


A statement released today read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

“Darius was found unconscious in his Rochester, Minnesota, apartment on August 11, and was pronounced dead by the local medical examiner’s office in the afternoon.

“The local police station has confirmed that there is no sign of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unclear as medical examinations continue.

“We ask that you respect our desire for privacy at this time as we accept the tragic loss of our son and brother.”

The Scottish singer-songwriter and actor, known as Darius Danesh when he made his debut for ITV’s Popstars in 2001, also appeared in his first Pop Idol win by Will Young.

He then built a successful stage career, appearing in two productions as Billy Flynn in Chicago, as well as in Guys And Dolls, Gone With The Wind, and more on the West Side.

He lives in the United States and fell in love with Canadian actress Natasha Henstridge, whose films include the sci-fi blockbuster Species.
