Who is Alyssa Ellsman?

The man who killed 18-year-old Alyssa Elsman and injured 22 other pedestrians after walking through a crowd in Times Square in 2017 has been found not responsible for his crimes due to insanity.

Richard Rojas, 31, who suffers from schizophrenia, learned of his fate on June 22.

Rojas, a U.S. Navy veteran and Bronx native, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, 18 counts of attempted murder and 38 counts of assault.

The jury deliberated the case for six hours. Judge Daniel Conviser said Rojas would undergo further psychiatric tests before being jailed.

The weeks-long trial revolved around Roxas’ mental state at the time of the horrific events.

While his attorney said he “lost his mind,” prosecutors said the suspect knew he was in a densely populated area when he drove into the crowd.

During the trial, Rojas’ brother, Wilmer Varas, testified that the killer began experiencing mental health problems at age 11, 15 years before the Times Square attack at age 26.

Varas said Rojas spoke in tongues and complained about having a voice in his head.

“He wanted to kill them all,” Rojas told a traffic police officer after the attack.

Just before noon, nearly two dozen people were seriously injured when he brought it to West 45th Street as thousands walked past the world-famous site.

The sisters were beaten on the sidewalk between West 42nd and 43rd Streets.

Alyssa was pronounced dead at the scene and her sister was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
