Shocking video captures the moment a sex offender’s vicious punch left a Bronx restaurant customer with a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage.
The 52-year-old victim left the Fuego Tipico restaurant on East 188th Street near Fordham Estate’s Grand Place with a backpack in hand about 10:45 p.m. Friday. officials said.
Behind him was a bald man in a black T-shirt.
Video released Wednesday morning showed the man appearing to be wearing work gloves before attacking the victim from behind, knocking him to the ground and hitting him in the head.
The police then arrested Van Forbesa 55-year-old man was released on parole and charged with attempted murder, police said.
Bui was convicted of first-degree sexual assault in the Bronx in 1995 and sentenced to six years in prison, according to state records. He was paroled in 2019 and is now listed on the state registry as a sex offender of degree 3, the most serious designation, for sexually abusing a 17-year-old girl in 1994.
Bui was also charged with illegal possession of a weapon and robbery in the city in the 1990s, police sources said.
Police officials said the two did not know each other and apparently did not interact before the attack.
But the video showed the suspect appearing to say something to a crowd gathered on the sidewalk after the attack.
He then returned to the restaurant before fleeing, police said.
Police found the victim unconscious and dazed on the ground with head trauma.
Authorities said paramedics took him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was treated for a fractured skull, a broken cheekbone and a brain hemorrhage.
Police say he is in critical but stable condition.
