Trevor Summers Biography
Who is Trevor Summers?
Trevor Summers, 45, had previously questioned the woman he sexually assaulted and held captive, but ultimately refused to testify in Hillsborough County, Florida, court on Friday.
In this case, the defendants fired a series of lawyers in 2017. Summers hired and fired a private attorney, represented by the Office of the Public Defender, and decided to represent himself some time before trial. On Monday, however, Summers opted to have court-appointed attorney Anthony Marches try the case again before a jury was selected, though Marchers acknowledged in court that they disagreed on strategy.
Summers then decided to represent himself again, allowing him to question his ex-wife Alyssa Mathewson, 42, on the witness stand.
Matthewson testified at trial that her then-husband tried to suffocate her with a pillow until he lost consciousness, then strangled her with a rope. She also testified that the accused kidnapped her and sexually assaulted her.
From Tuesday to Wednesday morning, she said Summers sneaked into her home in the early hours of March 11, 2017, and ambushed her while she was sleeping. The former couple with five children is married but separated and divorced, and they live in separate homes. While her 14-year-old daughter was on the sofa, her two younger children shared the bed with her.
“You pushed me, hugged me, tied me, attacked me, and broke into my house while I was sleeping before sex! You raped me!” she testified Wednesday.
But Summers himself didn’t want to be on the witness stand.
