Sean Phipps Wiki
Sean Phipps Biography
Who is Sean Phipps?
Police have renewed their appeal to find a convicted rapist who escaped prison more than two months ago and have warned he could live “off the grid”.
Sean Phipps, 51, was unable to return to HMP Leyhill, near Bristol, after his release on June 1.
Phipps is described as white, 6ft 2in tall and of slim build on the kidnapping and rape charges.
Avon and Somerset Police said today they have a dedicated team to track all reported sightings and coordinate with other forces across the country.
It is believed it may still be located in the greater Bristol area, including north of Somerset or south of Gloucester.
Investigators said Phipps was known to walk and hitchhike long distances, as well as steal bicycles as a means of transportation.
Avon and Somerset police said Phipps was interested in living off the grid, possibly camping and foraging in rural areas.
They said he could get someone to ask for water or do a casual job.
Or he might be seeking shelter in abandoned buildings in Bristol or other cities in the South West, and he might be looking for food in containers.
Detective Inspector Keith Smith added: “We also know that he tends to use false crying stories to gain sympathy and help from the unsuspecting public.”
Police have told anyone who saw the 51-year-old man to call 999 immediately and warned people that he may be camping somewhere or traveling on foot, bike or hitchhiking.
Investigators said Phipps had previously turned himself in when he knew police were looking for him.
The criminal, who was convicted of kidnapping in 2002 and rape in 1989 and 1993, has several surnames, including Cawthray, Goldthorpe and Perry.
Anyone who saw him was asked not to approach him and to call 999 immediately, while those with knowledge of his whereabouts can contact police on 101, citing reference number 5222130002.
