Noreen Dalzel Biography
Who is Noreen Dalzel?
Noeline Dalzell’s teens screamed trying to protect her from her father before he walked among them and fatally stabbed her in the neck.
Every day, the three children relive the trauma of seeing James Leonard Fairhall murder her 49-year-old mother.
Sentencing him to 25 years in prison on Friday, Victorian High Court Judge Jane Dixon said: “The loss of their mother has left a huge void in their lives and three young lives have been taken forever by their vile violence changed.”
In February 2020, the 47-year-old was both jealous and angry when he chased Dalzell at his home in Seaford, south-east of Melbourne.
After ending a 20-year on-off relationship with Fairhall, who had abused her in the past, she develops a romantic interest in an old classmate.
Fairhall moved back home a few months ago when she had nowhere to live.
Victorian Supreme Court Justice Jane said the death of mother-of-three Noeline Dalzell, 49, “leaves a huge void for their mothers, three young lives scorned by them The violence has changed forever.” Dixon, her murderer.James Fairhall
Two days before the murder, Fairhall told his friend that he wanted to kill the man she was talking to, Mrs. Dalzell.
Hours before the stabbing, she called her new love and apologized to him.
When her children came home from school on February 4, they found their parents arguing. Fairhall yelled at Mrs Dalzell, accusing her of cheating on him.
When he put down the scissors, his 13-year-old son hid them. Fairhall then armed himself with a large kitchen knife.
Her eldest daughter, 16, and son, 15, pushed the mother into her son’s room to protect her, but Fairhall followed.
The two children stood between their parents, the youngest daughter watching.
All three yelled at her to stop before Fairhall walked over and stabbed her mother in the neck.
Fairhall’s son knocked him to the ground, he dropped the knife and let Mrs Dalzell flee to a neighbour’s house.
Fairhall continued to pursue her with a second knife, but Mrs Dalzell collapsed in the street, dying from a neck injury.
Justice Dixon said the Fairhall crime was a serious example of intimate partner murder.
“The tragic legacy of her crimes is that her three children actually lost their parents because of his actions,” he said.
Fairhall tried to blame her children in a letter to them from prison. They were never handed over but were used by prosecutors to show their lack of remorse for the crime.
