Biography of Murtuz Megidov

Who is Murtuz Megidov?

The son of a prime minister pushed his girlfriend out of a fourth-floor window at a top Russian university that trains spies and diplomats.

The court found Murtuz Medzhidov, 26, killed “smart student” Tomiris Baysafa, 21, by pushing her into a 40-foot window to her death.

The 21-year-old died in May 2018 after a fall.
He was imprisoned for 13 years in a strict institutional penal colony.

The incident occurred in April 2018 when the 21-year-old suffered multiple fractures after a fall.

The student died a few weeks later and police launched an investigation.

A year ago, when Megidov was acquitted, the mother of the dead girl, who had protested the “lawlessness” of justice in Russia, came to the verdict in a campaign for justice.

The trial judge was seen as “very supportive” of Mejidov, the son of the influential former prime minister Mukhtar Mejidov in Dagestan’s oil and gas region.

Grieving mother Jenna Akhmetova, 42, complained that her daughter was translated as “an absolutely morbid psycho-emotional person” and that compelling forensic evidence had been ignored.

She has called on the Russian president and her native Kazakhstan presidents Vladimir Putin and Kassim-Jomart Tokayev for justice.

The jury unanimously found Megidov guilty of murder at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), where he trained diplomats and spies.

The mother has become a detective, meticulously collecting forensic evidence of the case.

But she claims the initial court hearing was biased against her daughter.

Detailed forensic expert evidence showing how she “hit her, twisted her arm and threw her out the window”, as well as the results of a polygraph test on the accused, were ignored.

Her legal team claims the respected institute has moved to avoid a conviction at its facility.

She said: “The courtroom is hell.

“I don’t want this to happen to anyone. Never.
