Who is Kate Greville?

Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs was today accused of harboring a ‘sinister and ugly side’ when he ‘lost control’ and head-butted his ex-lover in a £1.7million cheating dispute with his family .

The former Manchester United and Wales winger, 48, arrived at Manchester’s Minshur Street Stadium on Monday morning, where he faces charges of assaulting and controlling his ex-girlfriend, Kate Greyville, 37, and assaulting his sister.

The prosecution’s Peter Wright QC told the court that Giggs’ private life “involved a series of psychological and physical abuse of the woman he claimed to love”.

Prosecutors said Greville’s decision to cut ties was the result of an incident in November 2020 in which she and Ryan Giggs fell out over the former Premier League star’s alleged infidelity.

The jury heard how Giggs “lost control” and allegedly headbutted his girlfriend at his £1.7million home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, before attacking her sister Emma Greville.

She called police, who she allegedly told the “toxic” nature of the relationship. Giggs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

From around 9.15am this morning, Giggs, accompanied by his legal team, looked ahead as he made his way through a group of photographers.

The 48-year-old is accused of assaulting and physically causing his ex-girlfriend, public relations executive Kate Greville, 37, at her home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1, 2020. harm.

He also faces charges of controlling and coercive behaviour towards Ms Greville in their relationship, which began in 2017 and ended in the alleged assault.

In November 2020, Ms Greefler decided to end the relationship while out with friends at the Manchester Stock Exchange hotel after learning of Giggs’ alleged infidelity.

Mr Wright told the court: “She knew the defendant had deceived her again.

“That night, the defendant’s actions towards her led her to make a decision and quit early. Before returning home, she informed her sister of her plans via text message.

She planned to leave before he returned from the hotel. The plan didn’t work.

“When she vacated the defendant’s home address, he came back and started arguing with her and tried to stop her from leaving her.”

Prosecutors said she used his phone as “currency” in an attempt to convince him not to stop her from going.

Wright said a heated argument ensued, with Giggs trying to grab her phone, which was later found on the fence of the house’s yard.

In the ensuing altercation, they wrestled on the ground before Greville’s sister stepped in, the court heard.

“She (Emma Greville) tried to get the defendant to leave her sister,” Mr Wright said. Because of her distress, we say, the defendant deliberately elbowed her in the jaw, causing her discomfort and shock as he Violence against her and her sister.

“The argument between the accused and Kate Greville went into the kitchen. The couple continued to argue over his phone.

“We say that at that stage, the accused lost control of himself completely and deliberately head-butted Kate, causing her lips to swell and bruise. Emma then called police, who went to the scene.

When the judge arrived in court shortly before 11am, Giggs, wearing a dark suit, white shirt and tie, stood in the dock and identified himself to the clerk

About 30 journalists packed the public gallery ready to start the proceedings, and many more watched remotely via video link.

Last year, a court heard that Giggs allegedly kicked Greville in the back and then threw her naked out of a five-star hotel room after accusing Greville of flirting with other women.

The Welshman was also accused of common assault on his sister Emma Greville on the same day.

Giggs was arrested at his home in November 2020 and released on bail.

He denies the charges and pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance last April.

At a brief hearing on Minshur Street last week, Judge Manley said jurors would be sworn in on Monday and indictments would follow.

Lawyers for the case appeared remotely to handle preparations, while Giggs was not required to attend.

Last month, he resigned as Wales national team manager after taking a sabbatical in November 2020.

In a statement, he said he did not want the country’s preparations for this year’s World Cup in Qatar to be “impaired, destabilized or compromised in any way by the continued focus on the case”.

Giggs met Ms Greville in 2013 when she helped promote the hotel football stadium she founded with former Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville.

He divorced his wife Stacey in December 2017 and reached a £40million settlement with model and Big Brother star Imogen Thomas after cheating on her during their 10-year marriage.
