Who is Edward Roman?

A RIKERS Island guard who served greater than a decade in New York City jumped to his death Friday from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

Police stated the U.S. Coast Guard pulled Roman from the water. He was later pronounced dead at Staten Island University Hospital, in accordance to Staten Island Progress.

In an announcement on Roman’s death, Correctional Officers Charitable Association president Benny Boscio cited the stressors and dealing situations confronted by corrections officers.

“Correctional Officer Roman was loved and respected by his colleagues. His life and his career lay before him,” Bossio stated.

“This tragedy is additionally a solemn reminder of the large strain corrections officers face day-after-day. The deteriorating situations in our prisons don’t simply have an effect on inmates.

“Our officers go to work every day and don’t know if they’ll come home the same way they left. They go to work every day without knowing if they’ll lose time with their loved ones by being forced to work double or triple shifts.”

The incident comes a day after New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed an govt order geared toward addressing staffing points and situations within the metropolis’s prisons.

A committee led by lawyer Brendan McGuire and Deputy Mayor of Public Safety Phil Banks will work to handle these points.

“I call on the newly formed Rikers Task Force to immediately address the psychological toll this work has caused my members and provide them with greater access to counseling and other support services,” Bossio stated.

“Our hearts are broken and our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Roman’s family and his officers. We will do everything in our power to support them during this painful time.”

Roman is from Long Island and joined the Correctional Services Department in December 2011.

“Edward Roman served the city and the department for 10 years as a corrections officer,” stated DOC Commissioner Louis Molina.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones. We have been praying for his recovery and this tragic loss will now be felt throughout the institution.”

Other officers have been drastically affected by the information of Roman’s death.

“We’ll never do the right thing, we’ve been working, we’ve never seen our kids,” an official advised Yahoo News.

“At least in the NYPD, you can get some fresh air and go to Starbucks.”

The physician stated he was advising him.

Following his death, a collection of tributes to Rome appeared on social media.

New York City’s Daring Football Team wrote: “This morning, in a tragic incident, we lost one of our own. Former Daring Football Player, Correctional Officer Edward Roman, we would like to express our thoughts to his family at this time. Condolences and deepest condolences.”
