Who is Dr. Shirley Parker?
Dr Shirley Pike, 89, suffered fatal injuries when she was hit by a transport van on Woodstock Road in Oxford about 7.45pm.
Pike was taken to the city’s John Radcliffe Hospital, where she is being treated.
Dr Pike’s son Justin Pike told the Oxford Post that his mother had broken her pelvis and several ribs, as well as a damaged liver.
He also had a brain hemorrhage and doctors feared her lungs were damaged.
A nurse in the area initially had to perform CPR at the crash site.
Dr Pike and residents of Charles Ponsonby House have written to Oxfordshire County Council in the past asking for improved road safety in the area.
A 45-year-old van driver from Thatam, Berkshire, was arrested today and is being questioned by police following the crash.
Officers investigating the incident arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while unwell under the influence of alcohol or drugs and causing grievous harm to a jury by dangerous driving, police said.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman appealed for witnesses to contact them.
Thames Valley Police said: “A grey Ford Transit van and a pedestrian collided near the intersection of Woodstock Road and Osburton Road at about 7.45pm on Thursday.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 80s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a life-threatening condition.

Thames Valley Police said the 45-year-old man has been released and is being investigated into the incident.
