Biography of Akib Talib
Who is Aqib Talib?
A manhunt has been launched for Yaqub Talib, the brother of former NFL star Aqib Talib, as a wanted suspect in a fatal shooting at a Dallas youth soccer game.
An U-9 football game turned tragic after one of the team’s coaches was shot dead following a parental altercation at the end of a game in Lancaster, Texas.
Yaqub Talib, 39, the brother of former NFL star Aqib Talib, is now wanted for murder in connection with the fatal shooting at a children’s soccer game Saturday night.
Friends and family identified the officer killed as Mike Hickmon, the coach of the Dragon Elite Academy team. Hickmon is believed to have been shot three times in front of his 9-year-old son, who was a member of one of the teams at the time.
The Lancaster Police Department said Talib had a physical altercation with a referee on the field before opening fire at the Lancaster Community Park in southeastern Dallas County.
Video of the shooting showed a man wearing a black hoodie and hat pulling a gun and shooting.
In chaotic footage shot from the side of the pitch, parents can be heard yelling and arguing with each other, while some talk to match officials late in the game before fights erupt on the lawn.
Within seconds, the battle intensified as more and more people ran to join or split.
Crazy parents can then be seen dialing 911 on their phones as the child who witnessed the murder was quickly taken away.
“They were upset about losing. The guy came to the sidelines and said he was going to play the referee, so the referee called the game,” coach Heath Mays told Fox 4.
‘It’s just not that important. It is not. It’s not that serious,” added coach Kerry Lewis. “Nobody should come to a 9-year-old game and worry about their lives or my son might be shot while playing football. This has to stop.
His son witnessed him being shot in the wild. These children are innocent. They shouldn’t be witnessing what they are witnessing,” Lewis said.
“He’s a sincere man, he’s a caring man, he’s a father first.” While police are looking for Yaqub, his brother, footballer Aqib, was at the game at the time of the murder.
Aqib was present when this tragic incident occurred and he is deeply distressed and saddened by this horrific loss of life. He would like to extend his condolences to the victim’s family and to all who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy,” his attorney told TMZ.
One parent paid tribute to 43-year-old Hickmon on Facebook: “As many of you may have heard, Mike Hickmon is a parent, ex-athlete, coach, mentor and pillar of our youth football community. , also a member of the Dragon Elite Academy coaches. A family was killed yesterday at a youth football game.
“Even if the older DEA team didn’t attend the event, it still shocked us all and really made us reevaluate everything,” Courtney Jackson wrote.
“No coach, parent or player should have been prepared for it when he was involved in youth sports. I welcome comments on how we can help our 9u players and Mikes family recover from witnessing and going through such pain at such a young age Suggestions over here.”
Lancaster police did not list Aqib as a person of interest.
He retired in 2020 after nearly 15 years in the league and won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos.
During his career, he has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams and currently serves as a broadcaster for Fox Sports.
