An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 19-year-old man was found stabbed to death Friday night in the Garner area, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office, Alexander Leon Herrera was charged with killing William Hayden Fitzpatrick of Clayton, who was found in 4993 NC 42 was stabbed multiple times in the bathroom of the Murphy Express gas station.

Deputies responded to the incident around 5 p.m. and found Fitzpatrick, who was working at the gas station, dead, according to a news release.

With the help of K9, they found Herrera hiding in the woods, the News and Observer previously reported.

He was charged with murder, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the statement. The sheriff’s office did not say whether the two teens knew each other or what caused the stabbings. N&O has asked for more details about the incident. Herrera is being held in the Johnston County Jail without bond.
