Chaos erupted at the Las Vegas airport after multiple people shared on social media about the alleged shooting.
Police at Hari Reid International Airport confirmed in a statement via Twitter that there were no active-duty shooters.
Chaos unfolded at the Las Vegas airport following reports of a suspected shooting.
Officials have since confirmed that there were no active shooters at the scene.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the loud noise from Terminal 1 terrified citizens in the area.
It was caused by an unruly passenger, authorities added.
That person is currently in custody, they said.
In a statement released around 9 a.m. ET, the airport wrote: “There are no active duty shooters.
“Unexpected discharge at airport. No danger to passengers or staff. Investigation ongoing, more information to be posted on this channel.”
Dramatic footage has since emerged showing panicked passengers starting to flee the gates, fearing the worst.
Flyers showed people throwing bags and trying to get through security as panic spread inside the terminal.
The mayhem is believed to have started around 7:30 ET this morning, when one user wrote on social media: “Alleged gunman at Gate B of Las Vegas airport. I’m safe.”
“Everyone ran through the safety gate. I didn’t think we could fly.
“I don’t know if the incident is under control.”
Minutes later, images emerged of the influx of passengers rushing through security.
Many people ran away screaming, while sirens blared in the background.
“Oh my God, there was a shooting or something, I don’t know what happened,” said one man who was filming the video.
“It’s horrible, everyone is going through security right now.”
One user then uploaded a video showing several people lying on the ground waiting for more news.
He added: “We’ve stopped moving, no planes have left, something happened to T1, this is the view from T3.”
Since then, others have complained about the long, twisty lines that followed the chaos.
One said: “Currently stuck in endless security lines at the Las Vegas airport. No flights.”
As another put it: “The queue at Harry Reed International Airport was total chaos and madness after @TSA closed its doors.”
“Flights will take place after multiple concourses have been cleared and all passengers must be screened/rechecked at security checkpoints before boarding,” the airport said in an updated statement.
