Tom Brady tells kids he wants them to ‘fail’ in life
He’s not kidding.
Tom Brady taught his three children that failure in life is important because it shows them their resilience.
“I don’t want my kids to be good all the time,” said Brady, 45, Monday’s episode of “Let’s Go!” podcast. “I told them this morning. I said, ‘I hope you fail because I want to see if you fail, when you fail. “
He added: “Life is not going to be just plain sailing. So we need to develop resilience.”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers player – co-owns 10-year-old Vivian and 13-year-old Benjamin with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and ex-partner Bridget Moore Bridget Moynahan, who co-owns son Jack, 15, explained that failure allows people to show resilience.
“You try a lot of things in life and you fail. It’s part of life. We try different things, we really push ourselves to try…something new, but it doesn’t work out the way we want it to development,” he said.
“So what do you do? Care less? Care more? Or do you accept the past and try to learn from it, grow and find the resilience we all want to teach our kids?
When asked if the quarterback thinks his kids are afraid of failure, he said it’s hard for anyone to deal with failure.
“I think it’s naturally hard for anyone in our society to feel like they might be failing or saying the wrong thing,” he said. “Even admitting defeat has serious consequences.”
In the end, he added, life isn’t about winning games or the Super Bowl: it’s about relationships.
“Life is a human thing,” Brady said. “…my life has been very enriching because I have met so many wonderful people in my life who have supported me time and time again in many ways by helping me achieve my dreams.”
He added: “Now that I have these amazing kids to learn from, I just want to be a good parent, be there for them, be a great role model and role model.”
Brady said he told his kids they just had to do their best.
“I don’t care if you win or lose. Just do your best and you’ll be proud. If you’ve done your best, we can all agree,” he said.
