Purcell is a versatile winger and full-back who is known as a star player in the Queensland Rugby Union.
The sprinter earned his nickname after seemingly going head-to-head with the kangaroos, having played for clubs including the Ipswich Jets and the Brisbane Tigers.
In a total of 82 games, Purcell scored 68 attempts and 22 goals.
The star was signed by NRL giants Melbourne Storm last year.

The Rugby League star who finished his nut has revealed his testicles exploded in a bizarre training incident.
Tributes poured in from the Australian Rugby League, with the Tigers tweeting: “Very saddened to hear of the passing of kangaroo catcher Michael Purcell.
“Things and prayers are with Percy’s family, friends, and those he played with on the Tigers, Bulimba Bulldogs, Brothers, Ipswich Jets and the wider rugby league community.”
Former Jets coach Ben Walker added: “I’m heartbroken, very, very sad.
“He’s a very talented kid, absolutely capable of playing the NRL.
“We got a tip about this kid playing the reserve team, nicknamed ‘kangaroo hunter’ because he was reportedly running so fast he once chased a kangaroo while trail running in the bush.
“We signed him to the Ipswich Jets and he ended up making 66 attempts in 71 games. His speed was unbelievable.”
