The state’s youth held a one-day summit for peaceful elections in the state ahead of the rescheduled March 18 gubernatorial and House elections.

The summit was organized by the Rivers for Rivers Network in partnership with the Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Commission of Nigeria (NYCN).

Sir Tony Okocha, chairman of the event and head of the state’s All Progressive Congress (APC), called on the state’s young people, especially those from Rivers, to take their destiny into their own hands in his speech. own hands.

He urged them to stand up for the vision of the country’s founding fathers and not to betray it, saying their dream was of a peaceful, free and prosperous nation.

Events Chair Okocha described the show’s theme; “Connecting the future of Rivers State youth to the dreams of our Founding Fathers” as apt, concise and auspicious.

“Every generation has a vision, and you either stick to it or you betray it,” he declared, asking young people to understand what their vision was in every field of human endeavor, whether it was in sync with the dreams of the Founding Fathers.

He said that the way for young people to take control of their own destiny is not violence or lawlessness, but the need to mobilize young people, let them recognize the realities of the moment intellectually, and juxtapose these with the dreams of the founding fathers of the United States. state.

“As young people who constitute the most powerful force in any society, we must take responsibility.

“The hottest place in hell is for the young people of the Rivers State who decide to be indifferent in the face of oppression, intimidation, colonization of any kind, invasions and blatant attempts to destroy our humanity through centrifugal forces from within or without,” O’Connor Kocha said.

Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has asked young people not to vote for greedy politicians in the upcoming gubernatorial and house elections.
