Gunmen wearing police uniforms shot and killed All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign coordinator Chisom Lennard in the Ahhoda West Local Government Area in Rivers state.
Leonard was reportedly abducted by gunmen while conducting the gubernatorial and state House elections at Ibagwa Voting Unit 2 Ward 10 in the Ahoada West LGA.
He was allegedly taken away by commando after he tried to stop the gunmen from seizing election material.
State APC Advocacy Secretary Darlington Nwauju confirmed the incident, saying: “He was kidnapped and taken from his polling station during the voting process.
No one knows where they took him. His body was found late Saturday. Nwauju also revealed that the late Leonard was APC LGA caretaker president and a doctoral student at Rivers State University.
The body of the late Leonard was found along the Ibueahi-Ubeta Highway in the state’s Ahoada-West LGA. The late APC Chief was a property surveyor and was a board member of the Greater Port Harcourt Urban Development Authority during Rotimi Amaechi’s tenure.
When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, said she would get the situation from the Ahoada Regional Command and get back to reporters. Superintendent Iringe-Koko had not done so as of the time of filing this report.
