Lahore, 19 March – Pakistan Cricket Board Interim Governing Board Chairman Najam Sethi has claimed that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season’s digital viewership has surpassed that of the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to media reports.
Sethi said the numerical rating for the PSL this season was 150, compared to 130 in the previous edition of the IPL, while expressing his gratitude to the fans and the federal and provincial governments of Punjab and Sindh for making the tournament a success, Dawn reported.
A new option was also presented. “We have proposed to hold some league games in the US and if there is an opportunity, we will explore that option,” said the 74-year-old, adding that the PCB was in talks with the relevant authorities in Karachi and Lahore for players near the stadium. He also highlighted how PSL has impacted and helped to improve the country’s economic situation.
“PSL contributes to keeping the wheels of the country’s economy turning while creating jobs and helping the tourism, hospitality, airline and road travel businesses grow,” Sethi said before disclosing the tax payments to the government. “We have paid Rs 70 crore in taxes to the federal government, Rs 50 crore in sales tax and another Rs 50 crore in provincial taxes,” Dawn reported.
On the issue of the three bookmakers sponsoring teams in the PSL, Sethi clarified that these agreements will take place before his appointment as PCB chief. “The PCB will not engage in any activities against the religion, culture and traditions of this land,” he added.
