Presidency tackles Yakasai for questioning Buhari’s commitment to Tinubu –

Malacañang on Wednesday slammed an elder politician, Tanko Yakasai, over his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s support for the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the Feb. 25 election. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed doubts.

Yakasai, who was featured on Kano’s Control TV show on Monday, questioned the president’s commitment to Tinubu’s candidacy.

He claimed that the personality of the former Lagos state governor would not excite President Buhari.

“I realize I’m not sure if Buhari is happy with Tinubu’s candidacy. That’s the problem. He’s in the APC because he was elected president on the party’s platform. But is he loyal to Tinubu’s presidency? I have doubts .

“I don’t know, but I haven’t seen him commit to supporting Tinubu as a candidate for the APC. I’m not sure if it’s the APC, but for sure, from my assessment of the situation, Tinubu’s personality doesn’t please him, ’” the elder statesman noted in the interview.

However, the President’s Senior Special Assistant for Media and Propaganda, Garba Shehu, reacted to Yakassai’s remarks in a statement in Abuja, saying the Arewa consultative forum chief’s stance was inconsistent with the President’s recent appearance at an APC campaign rally.

he insisted Buhari Fully support the APC presidential candidate.

The statement read: “Alhaji Tanko Yakasai is unaware of the All Progressive Congress. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what we do know is that his opinion in a recent interview did not come from within the party or from the Presidential team.

“His support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is welcome, although it is difficult to see what value it would add.

“He is right to emphasize his experience as an older person, a leader of government, and his ability to bridge divides is a solid foundation for the top job.

But Yakasai’s questioning of President Muhammadu Buhari’s loyalty stands in stark contrast to the president’s actions. As recently as Monday, he supported the party’s standard-bearer at a rally in Bauchi.

“He plans to make further campaign appearances in the coming weeks as his presidential duties allow.

“His support for the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is unquestionable.

“Perhaps, the current situation is difficult, and the old man needs a little help.

“If it wasn’t on TV, Yakasai’s ill-advised comment on the issue would have been dismissed as a misquote. But he was on TV.

“No one should take President Buhari seriously when it comes to this issue directed at him.”
