The Kogi State Police Command confirmed on Sunday that passengers of a derailed train in the state had been safely evacuated.
On Sunday, a train bound for the Warri-Itakpe route derailed in the Kogi forest between Ajaokuta and Itakpe.
Some stranded passengers have abandoned the train for fear of being kidnapped by criminals lurking around the forest.
The state police chief Akeem Yusuf confirmed the development to reporters in Lokoja,
Yusuf said the passengers had been evacuated and were continuing their journey without any hindrance.
He praised the police who carried out the rescue operation alongside other security personnel in the state.

CP said: “When we received the distress call, I immediately sent a rescue team into the forest to cover them.
“We did not take reports lightly, but ensured that passengers and train staff had the safety and security they needed.
“Our plan is to make sure no criminals take advantage of the situation to do anything interesting, God help us nothing interesting happens.
“I can boldly tell you that all passengers have been safely evacuated without any panic.”
