The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday condemned the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari by some hooligans in Kano state.
Buhari’s helicopter was attacked by angry youths during his visit to Kano, where he commissioned some projects initiated by the state government.
Young also hauls stones from a distance while his convoy drives to commission the Galaxy Backbone Limited project in the state.
In a statement issued by its national communications secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party described the attack on the president as an act of treason and blasphemy against Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The PDP claimed the attack was a plot by All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to spark violence in the country and disrupt next month’s elections.
Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduj had earlier advised Buhari to postpone the visit because he feared he might be attacked by angry youths.
“Our party is appalled that this attack was part of an alleged plot by the APC presidential candidate to undermine the presidency, cause chaos, spark violence in the country, disrupt the conduct of the 2023 election, and undermine our democracy,” the statement read. Realizing that he cannot win in a peaceful, free and fair election process.
“The PDP invites Nigerians to pay attention to how Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is trying to restrict the movements of President Buhari and even try to prevent him from visiting Kano State.
“Even more disturbing, armored personnel carrier The presidential campaign is trying to humiliate and hurt President Buhari while carrying out his official duties in Kano.

“It should be noted that APC presidential candidates have been displaying open distaste and making statements against President Buhari since Mr. Incendiary rhetoric in the 2023 general election.
“Political power isn’t going to be served in restaurants, or a la carte. That’s what we’re doing; it’s being determined; you do whatever it takes; fight for it, grab it, grab it and run with it.
“It is now clearer why the APC presidential candidate has the audacity to create a militia code-named the ‘Jagaban Army’ with the intent of undermining our national security, waging violence against our democratic institutions, and disrupting the electoral process.
“The PDP recommends that the APC presidential candidates accept the fact that Nigerians are determined to hold free, fair and credible elections and that they are unwavering in their choice of PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar as the next president of our country.
“Asiwaju Tinubu should take note that no threat can divert Nigerians from the path of saving and rebuilding our country; this desire is manifested in Atiku Abubakar.”
