Paul Merson praised Southampton striker Theo Walcott’s assist for Che Adams in their 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The ex-Arsenal winger cut back perfectly to the Scotland striker, who slid the ball into the back of the net and the Saints equalized after Pedro Polo’s powerful opener.
However, Southampton had no plans to accept defeat against Tottenham, with Theo Walcott assisting Che Adams in an excellent goal that impressed Paul Merson.
Paul Merson heaps praise on Southampton ace Theo Walcott in Tottenham draw
The ex-England international made headlines after opening up about how frustrated his side were recently knocked out of the FA Cup by Grimsby Town.
But Theo Walcott wasn’t thinking about the devastating result of a few weeks ago and instead stepped up to the plate against Tottenham at Southampton, surprising Paul Merson sky sports.
“What a start! Walcott – he did a great job and picked Che Adams who hit the ball with the outside of his foot…the ball hit the inside of the post. Play on!”
It’s hard to disagree with the former Arsenal midfielder about the Gunners hero himself.
Walcott still has something to offer
While Walcott is far from his best at this stage of his career, he remains a threat due to his speed and directness, especially on the counter-attack.
Tottenham certainly felt it, and like Paul Merson, many were pleasantly surprised by Theo Walcott’s performance for Southampton at St Mary’s.
For a team fighting to avoid relegation, they must have attacking players who can create moments of magic when not much seems to be in their favour.
For the saints, £67,000 per week Man still has the ability to do this from time to time.
