The All Progressive Congress in Ed, Osun state on Monday night said members of the state’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were nearly killed when armed thugs attacked their party secretariat in the town where the current governor’s Senate Country House of the MP Ademola Adelek.
In a statement from Osobo, one of the party’s leaders, Mufutau Oyewale, said his party members narrowly escaped the secretariat by the grace of God.
According to him, “After the Electoral Petitions Tribunal confirmed the former governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, as the true winner of the July 26 gubernatorial election, armed mobs invaded their secretariat and immediately attacked the residents of the country.”
“They went on a rampage shortly after the verdict, burning down the APC secretariat in Ede South and destroying the secretariat in Ede-North. They even threatened to kill us and invade our homes.
However, the statement questioned, “How and when does one exercise freedom of association and movement as a fundamental right enshrined in Nigeria’s current constitution?
“Why must the natives of Ede be damned for being a member of another political party other than the PDP, just because the party’s governor candidate is an extract of the PDP and is from the ancient town of Ede?
“There are PDP members in Iragbiji, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola’s hometown, and no incidents of persecution, attacks, maiming and killing of PDP members and leaders occurred in the ancient town,” the statement read.
In response, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, Chairman of Osun PDP, said: “Osun APC made a false alarm simply because it got into trouble trying to steal public mandates through a backdoor.”
“The Osun PDP has no record of murderers, unlike the APC which sponsored and nurtured thugs and bandits in Ede and Osun during its four-year rule”.
