The federal government has changed the start date of the 2023 Population and Housing Census to May 2023.
The exercise was originally scheduled to take place on March 29, 2023.
The postponement was announced by Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed on Wednesday at the conclusion of a Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The shift in drills comes after the gubernatorial and state assembly elections were postponed from March 11 to March 18, he said. independent national electoral commission (International Electrotechnical Commission).
The minister also revealed that the council had approved N2.8 billion from the National Population Commission (NPC) for the procurement of software required for the exercise.

“The National Population Commission filed a memorandum seeking some software to allow them to conduct the census this May.
“I believe they won’t be able to start the census as scheduled because of the rescheduling of the election.
“They are seeking council approval for a contract to procure census software for a sum of 2.8 billion naira.”
