The federal government has ordered the closure of all land borders ahead of the country’s gubernatorial and state elections on Saturday.
This was disclosed in a memorandum signed by Immigration Department spokesman Anthony Akuneme in Abuja on Friday by IIsah Idris, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
He said the border would be closed from 12:00am Saturday to 12:00am Sunday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct gubernatorial elections in the 28 states of the federation, Osun, Edo, Imo, Anambra, Ekiti, Ondo, Bayelsa and Ko Except Jizhou.

“The Federal Government has directed the full closure of all land borders from 00:00 am on Saturday, March 18, 2023 until 00:00 am on Sunday, March 19, 2023,” the memo reads.
“Therefore, all command comptrollers, especially those in the border states, must ensure that the directive is strictly enforced.”
