Napoli book historic Champions League quarter-final berth

ROME, 16 March Napoli reached their first Champions League quarter-final with a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Wednesday night, knocking out Germany 5-0 on aggregate.

Xinhua reported that Paternope reached the quarter-finals after winning the first leg in Germany thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The Azzurri showed no mercy at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as they were firmly in control and took the lead just before the break when Matteo Politano crossed in from the right and Olivia Smeyn leapt high and scored with a header.

Osimhen doubled the lead a few minutes after the break when Di Lorenzo delivered a cross for the Nigerian to equalize.

The hosts ended the game 10 minutes later when Piotr Zielinski was tripped inside the box and awarded a penalty, which the Pole himself scored.

Napoli joined Inter Milan and AC Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals, the first time three Serie A teams have reached the quarter-finals since the 2005-06 season.
