The home of filmed entertainment, Africa Magic has launched a range of local and international content for customers of its DStv and GOtv channels in the new calendar year.
The exciting catalog of content includes news, music, sports, reality shows, documentaries, series, movies and children’s shows.
Speaking at a content discovery event yesterday, Dr Busola Tejumola, Executive Director, Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice Nigeria, said customers should expect a new range of new, diverse, engaging and relevant indigenous stories from Africa Magic Channel.
“For 20 years, Africa Magic and Nollywood have grown together, building global careers and talent. In 2003, we embarked on a journey to tell authentic Nigerian stories in African Magic to build a platform where everyday Nigerians can reflect on our In 2023, we find ourselves celebrating 20 years of creating and telling Nigerian stories.
“This year, we intend to break even more boundaries and find new territories for local storytelling. We look forward to ensuring that Africa Magic remains at the forefront of storytelling in Nigeria. From April 2023, we will add 28 series titles and 20 original African magic films. This year, we are also investing more in local productions across our language channels: Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo,” she said.
Speaking about MultiChoice’s investment in growing content on its platform, Tejumola said Africa Magic launched with a single channel in Nigeria and has since expanded to a cluster of seven channels.
“From April 2022 to March 2023, we produced more than 2,500 hours and licensed 10,000 hours of real Nigerian stories. We produced it in English and the indigenous languages Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo The stories were produced and broadcast to more than 42 African countries,” she added.
Victor Aghahowa, head of production for West Africa at MultiChoice Nigeria, highlighted some of the new content that clients could follow, which he said included ‘The Residence’, ‘Ripples’, the Igbo drama series, ‘Ugwu and Iwe’, Yoruba series, ‘Apo’ (bag) and more.
He revealed that Africa Magic will now premiere new 130-episode series every six months, instead of 260-episode series per year. The list of new shows also includes an all-new improv game show “Mind and Body” and a new episode of “Simbirella.”
Customers will also continue to enjoy local and international sports and entertainment content through the SuperSport channel, including EPL, FA Cup, CAF Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Champions League matches as well as WWE specials.
