The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is developing a new regulatory framework to allow companies to directly provide satellite communication services smart phone current.according to LedgeIn addition to SpaceX and TMobile, companies such as AST Spacemobile and Lynk are also considering offering such a service.
The FCC has published a notice focusing on proposed satellite communications rules, detailing how companies must obtain licenses and what spectrum they will be allowed to use.
The FCC’s proposed legislation focuses on satellite companies that plan to partner with mobile carriers and take over use of spectrum normally reserved for standards like 5G. The advantage of using this spectrum is that smartphones can communicate directly with satellites without the need for additional hardware. Major US carrier T-Mobile said it would use SpaceX satellites.
