The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of the Kano Regional Command confirmed that 17 people were killed and three others were injured in a car accident in the village of Yaura on Wudil-Bauchi Road, Albasu Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident to journalists in Kano, FRSC Kano District Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi revealed that the accident involved a Honda Accord with registration number NSR 81 VW and a Volkswagen Sharon (bus) with registration number NNG 275 XA.
“A total of 21 passengers on two vehicles were involved in the accident, of which 11 adult men, 5 adult women and 1 boy were killed, and 3 others were seriously injured, including 1 adult man, 1 adult woman and 1 boys,” he said.
Abdullahi further revealed that the crash was caused by speeding, wrong overtaking leading to loss of control, and a head-on collision with one of the vehicles that immediately caught fire.
He added that the injured had been taken to Vudir General Hospital for treatment, while the remains of the deceased had been handed over to their relatives.
While expressing condolences to the families of the victims, he prayed for their souls to rest in peace, and advised motorists to obey traffic rules and maintain an accident-free society.
