Kamaru Usman was born on May 11, 1987 in Ochi, Edo, Nigeria. He was 8 years old when he immigrated to the United States. His mother was a teacher and his father, Muhammed Nasiru Usman, a former Nigerian Army officer, is now a pharmacist. He also had two brothers named Muhammad and Kashetu.
