Juventus beat Freiburg to advance into Europa League quarters

BERLIN, 17 March Freiburg lost 2-0 to Juventus in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Thursday night in a 3-0 Europa League defeat on aggregate.

The hosts were in control from the start and created chances through Ritsu Doan’s dangerous strike in the 5th minute and Matthias Ginter’s header in the 22nd minute.

Juventus broke the deadlock and VAR awarded them a penalty before the break. Dusan Vlahovic kept his nerve on the pitch to beat Freiburg keeper Mark Flecken. The hosts were reduced to 10 men as Manuel Gould was sent off for a second yellow card after handling the ball inside the box.

Despite being outnumbered, Freiburg fired in the second half, with Michael Gregoric and Lucas Höller approaching from promising positions after the restart, according to Xinhua.

Brycegaur pressed wildly but was unable to do any damage to the Juventus defence, as the visitors looked for counter-attacks.

Federico Chiesa caught the Freiburg defense almost off-guard, but Flekken stayed on his toes and smacked his shot over the bar in the closing stages.

Chiesa maintained his bowling advantage and doubled his advantage in stoppage time, although Adrien Rabiot’s reduction left the striker unquestionably victorious. .

“We gave everything but we had some misfortunes at crucial moments. We played well but we missed chances to score and it hurt,” Gregoric said.

“It was important to get through it. We played well in the first half, but we needed to improve in the second half. We made technical mistakes and some wrong choices,” Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said.
