Iran security forces arrest three journalists over protests –

Iranian security forces have arrested three female journalists who were covering protests across the country.

The protests began last September after the death of a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, in police custody.

On September 16, 2022, Amini was arrested by the Morality Police for not wearing the hijab properly.

Her death in police custody a few days later sparked outrage across the country, with protests springing up in major cities.

At least three female journalists, Melika Hashemi, Saideh Shafiei and Mehrnoush Zarei, were arrested by security agents in the past 48 hours, the Tehran Journalists’ Union said on Wednesday.

According to the union, the journalists have been sent to Evon Prison, where other demonstrators are being held.

At least 80 journalists have been arrested and detained by authorities since the protests began four months ago.

In addition to journalists, hundreds of high-profile Iranians, including entertainers and celebrities, were arrested and four protesters were executed by the government.
