We are extremely sad and distressing to share the awful news of Bruce Kent’s passing. The renowned British political activist and former Roman Catholic priest died at the age of 92. Bruce Kent is one of the most reputed and renowned personalities of Britain who served his country throughout his life. He was associated with National Service designated in the Royal Tank Regiment and attained a law degree from Brasenose College, Oxford. He then decided to become a priest, in 1958 he was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest and also served as a chaplain to the University of London from 1966 to 1974. He was then appointed as the chairman of the charity War on Want from 1974 to 1976. He withdrew priesthood in 1987 at the time he achieved the status of a monsignor.
He was involved in politics from 1985 to 1992 after succeeding Sean MacBride as President of the International Peace Bureau. Later in the year, 1992 Kent became a candidate for the Labour Party in the constituency of Oxford West and Abingdon and ranked at the third position. As an ordained priest, from taking his seat in the House of Commons. He was also a member of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. In a ceremony held on 19th October 2019, Kent was honoured with the Internation Peace Bureau (IPB) Sean MacBride Peace Award.
