Gbajabiamila felicitates Chief Anyaoku at 90 –

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, congratulated a senior politician, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, on his 90th birthday.

Bajabiamila said the former Commonwealth secretary-general had been a unifier and strong pillar of Nigeria and Nigerians for many years.

Gbajabiamila described Chief Anyaoku as a “Nigerian asset”, noting that his contribution to nation-building was commendable.

The Speaker recalled that the elder statesman represented Nigeria and Africa well when he was the third Secretary-General of the Commonwealth between 1990 and 2000.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and advocacy, Lanre Lasisi, the speaker said he was personally proud of Chief Anyaoku, like all other Nigerians, noting that the renowned diplomat had a distinguished career.

“Chief Emeka Anyaoku (GCVO, CFR, CON) has been a blessing not only to Nigeria but to all of Africa. A man who has served his country and continent diligently and has had an impeccable career.

“Chief Anyaoku’s life is a lesson for all of us. His sacrifice for the country is commendable. At 90 years old, he still finds time in his private capacity to advise Nigerians, especially the leaders.

“As a nation, we are truly blessed to have Chief Emeka Anyaoku among us. We are all beneficiaries of his endless wisdom,” Hon. Bajabiamila said, I wish the famous diplomat good health and the protection and blessings of Almighty God.
