A former DWTS judge has gotten a new job.
A well-known host and former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant has landed a new position.
Leah Remini, who co-hosted a few episodes of DWTS with Tom Bergeron, announced on Friday, June 10, 2022 that she will be joining the cast of “So You Think You Can Dance” as a judge. According to People magazine, she will be replacing Matthew Morrison, who was fired from the show after sending “flirty” messages to a female contestant.
“I am ecstatic to announce that I will be a judge on ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’” As a fan of the show and a huge fan of dancers, I’m looking forward to guiding these incredibly talented artists,” Remini wrote alongside a photo of a reserved parking spot marked by an orange traffic cone.
The exciting news was also shared on Fox. The official SYTYCD Instagram page announced, “Please welcome @leahremini as she joins the #SYTYCD Judge’s Panel on the milestone 300th episode airing this upcoming Wednesday, June 15.”
Remini’s rep confirmed to Heavy that she will continue to appear on the show for the rest of the season.
Here’s what you need to know:
Remini Has Some Past Dance Experience
Although Remini is best known for her acting roles, such as on the comedy “The King of Queens,” she has appeared on reality shows before. In 2014 and 2015, she and her family appeared on TLC’s “It’s All Relative.” According to her IMDb page, she has also appeared on “Match Game” and served on a panel for “The Masked Singer.”
Remini is one of the few DWTS contestants to have appeared on the show multiple times. As a contestant in season 17, she began her dancing career with pro Tony Dovolani. Before being eliminated in week 10, she learned the choreography for several dances, including the Rumba and Paso Doble.
In season 19, Remini returned to the ballroom to assist Bergeron with his hosting duties, and he did so again in season 21. In week 6 of season 19, she took over with Erin Andrews, and for two weeks in a row the following season.
Remini would then be invited to the judge’s table once more. Entertainment Tonight reported in September 2019 that the actress would be returning for the show’s “Cast From the Past” series.
Fans and her DWTS family congratulated Remini on her win.
Following her Instagram announcement, Remini received encouragement from some of the DWTS friends she’d made over the years. Her DWTS family will be rooting for her all the way as she prepares to embark on a new adventure with Jojo Siwa, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, and Cat Deeley.
Maks Chmerkovskiy, a professional ballroom dancer, commented on Remini’s post, “LETS GO!!!!”
Jenna Johnson, Chmerkovskiy’s sister-in-law, chimed in with, “OMGGGGG!!!!”
Fans are also ecstatic to see Remini back on television, and she has received a lot of love from them.
“I’d watch you on anything!” one person wrote.
“Way to go!” Another Instagram user commented, “We’ll be watching!”
“You have a lovely smile and a wonderful sense of humour. Another fan added, “Any show that has you is lucky!”
“Absolutely!! Because you’re a judge, I’m only going to be watching. Another comment read, “So excited to see you back on screen.”
Some SYTYCD fans, surprisingly, aren’t happy with Fox’s decision to bring Remini on board. On the @dancingonfox Instagram page, there are a number of comments questioning the decision.
“What are you talking about?” One person wrote, “What dance knowledge does she have?”
“I adore Leah… but huh?” says the narrator. Someone else added, “This seems incredibly strange.”
