Africa’s largest airline, Ethiopian Airlines, has announced plans to launch a new route between Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Atlanta, US.
Under the agreement, Ethiopian Airlines will operate four weekly flights to Atlanta (ATL) beginning May 16, 2023.
Commenting on the launch of the new flight, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines said: “We are really excited to open our sixth gateway in North America with this new flight to Atlanta. We have been connecting the US and Africa for 25 years , the new service will help facilitate investment, tourism, diplomacy and socio-economic ties between the two regions.
“As a pan-African airline, we are committed to further expanding our global network and connecting Africa with the rest of the world. We are also eager to better serve the United States by adding destinations and flight frequencies.
Ethiopian Airlines’ new service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is another victory for our city as we continue to grow and expand our air service to Africa,” said Atlanta Mayor Andrea Dickens.
He further added: “As we celebrate the new connection between the two dynamic cities of Atlanta and Addis Ababa. We look forward to a strong and successful partnership with our new partners in Ethiopia.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport general manager Balram Bheodari said in comments: “As the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, our mission is to provide exceptional service while connecting our community to the world.
“This new partnership with Ethiopian Airlines expands connectivity and access for our passengers and further strengthens our position as an industry leader. We are delighted to welcome Ethiopian Airlines to ATL.”

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates to more than 130 international passenger and cargo destinations. Atlanta will become Ethiopian’s fifth U.S. passenger destination, following Chicago, Newark, New York and Washington.
