Andy Devine dies at 79.

The legendary actor, best known for his role as Shadrach Dingle on the ITV soap, passed away in January, although the tragic news has only just emerged.

Public records confirm his death on January 27, and his cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.

Andy Devine’s Career and Life

Andy, born Peter Devine, played Shadrak on and off from 2000 to 2010, when he was last seen in Emmerdale.

His illustrious career saw him serve in the Royal Navy in the 1960s, and then he became a classic actor before turning to soap operas.

Devine’s roles include playing the grim guard in several episodes of the Doctor Who story Frontier in Space, and as Bernard on Channel 4’s Queer As Folk.

On July 23, 2010, he left Emmerdale more than a decade later, murdered in an emotional history of alcoholism.
