Elon Musk’s mother has revealed that she knew her son was a “genius” since he was three years old, despite nursery staff’s “rolling eyes” when she tried to enroll him a year early.
Because her son was “shy,” Maye Musk claimed that no one else saw his potential.
With an estimated personal fortune of $218.1 billion (£173 billion), the tech tycoon has become the world’s richest person.
In an interview with the Today show yesterday, Maye, a 74-year-old Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model, praised Tesla founder Elon Musk’s achievements.
When she told her son was a “genius,” the staff at a local nursery school “rolled their eyes.”
Maye, Elon’s mother, said she’d always known he was’special.’
“Yes (from the start, I knew he was special),” she admitted.
“I took him to the nursery school when he was three years old and told them I wanted to enroll him. They told me he should wait a year.” They rolled their eyes as I replied, ‘No, I have a genius son.’ “All of you.”
“They didn’t see the genius because he was shy, and I was the only person he had to talk to,” she continued.
When Maye told the nursery staff that Elon was a “genius,” they “rolled their eyes.”
“I knew about this because of that.” He’d reason with me, but he’d keep track of everything.”
Maye, on the other hand, admitted that she had not expected her son to launch so many successful businesses, and that she had even tried to persuade him not to launch electric cars or rockets.
Elon’s younger brother, Kimbal, was credited with assisting him in establishing himself in the business world, according to her.

Along with businessman Greg Kouri, they co-founded Zip2, a web software company that was later purchased by Compaq for $307 million in 1999.
Musk was paid $22 million for his 7% stake in the company as a result of the sale.
Elon was able to avoid the spotlight because Kimbal was the company’s voice, but he needed to establish a public profile in the hopes of accelerating his future accomplishments.
Elon’s net worth is an estimated $218.1bn (£173bn)
The 50-year-old is now the founder and CEO of SpaceX, as well as the product architect and CEO of Tesla, the chairman of SolarCity, and the founder of the online payment service PayPal.
His investments, including a 9.2% stake in Twitter, hold a large portion of his fortune.
