Last August, Kamaru Usman came within a round of his second win over Leon Edwards, a victory that would have given him the greatest welterweight title in history. Closer to Georges St-Pierre in the debate.
Instead, Edwards hit a Hail Mary header to knock out the champ and secure the victory – and set the stage for Britain’s biggest ever UFC fight. The fight, set to take place Saturday at UFC 286, saw Usman and Edwards fall for the third time, with welterweight gold and bragging rights hanging in the balance.
Leon Edwards will undoubtedly receive a hero’s welcome at the O2 Arena in London, while Usman will look to bounce back from the first loss of his UFC career – and the second.
England also have a key lightweight bout in London on Saturday night, with No. 3 Justin Gaethje taking on No. 6 Rafael Fiziev. The surging Kazakh fighter has won five straight post-match bonuses en route to the top spot and is looking to return to the top five after losing to Charles Oliveira last May against Gaethje.
Ahead of this Saturday’s UFC 286, the promotion has scheduled a pre-fight press conference open to media and fans on Thursday, March 16, 2023 – a live feed of the event is available above.
