Crystal Palace could now hire 62-year-old who wants the West Ham job to replace Vieira

Crystal Palace could now hire Rafa Benitez to replace Patrick Vieira – although he is awaiting a job at West Ham.

What is the ins and outs?

Hmm – according to daily mail – The Spaniard wants to take over at West Ham and is waiting to see if the east Londoners decide to sack David Moyes.

Benitez is now tipped as a potential Crystal Palace option – according to reports world of london.

The 62-year-old has been out of work since receiving his P45 at Everton in January 2022, but recently told BBC Football Daily Podcast His family have been telling him to take another managerial role in England.

“I had almost 20 offers from national teams and countries, but my family said try to stay nearby, try to stay in England or stay in Europe,” Benitez said.

After Benitez’ spells at Liverpool and Everton, his family are said to still live in the Wirral, Merseyside, which is why they’ve encouraged him to stay in English football to maintain their closeness.

The Madrid-born tactician has an impressive record in the Premier League.

benitez won 173 his 359 Premier League, drawing 86 when lost 100as he watched his Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton teams score 543 goals scored and goals conceded 350.

Crystal Palace may need to hurry up as West Ham struggle

As it stands, Crystal Palace are the only team in the Premier League without a manager, so they can choose among the options available.

However, West Ham are 17th – just outside the relegation zone on goal difference – so if Moyes can’t turn things around, he too could be sacked as quickly as Vieira.

In that case, the Hammers could turn to Benitez, given his apparent desire to take over the London Stadium, taking him away from Crystal Palace.

So if the south Londoners are genuinely interested in the Spaniard, they need to make a decision soon.
