Chrome is rolling out an update for Android users that will allow them to lock an incognito session with a passcode or biometric when they exit an app. The feature has been available to iOS users for a while, but now it’s opening up to folks using Chrome on Android.
Users can activate this feature by Chrome Settings > Privacy & Security and turn on the “Lock incognito tabs when Chrome closes” switch. So the next time the user logs out of Chrome, their incognito session will be automatically locked. To unlock an Incognito Tag, you can use a biometric unlock on your phone, such as a fingerprint unlock or a lock code.

This feature is useful when searching for topics that you don’t want to appear in recommendations or history.
Since Google is just starting to roll out the feature, you may not get the update even if you’re using the latest version. In this case, you can enter “chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android” and enable the flag to unlock the feature immediately.
As part of a broader update, Google said it will also update its Safety Checkup feature to send users more personalized recommendations about the permissions they share with specific sites. For example, if a site is sending too many notifications, Safety Check prompts you to change your notification access settings.
