MUMBAI, March 19 Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is a star as the English football club brings its flagship community outreach programme, The Famous CFC, to Mumbai, kicked off the club’s multi-city world tour, bringing the club closer to its fans in India.
The Famous CFC held over the weekend saw a number of events held by the club, attracting a huge audience in Mumbai.
Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink visited Mumbai as part of the tour and was in attendance for the weekend, kicking off Friday’s social reception. The event took place on March 17 and was attended by Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor, himself a big CFC fan.
The highlight of the trip was a visit to Dharavi on Sunday, when Hasselbaink, along with members of the CFC Foundation, delivered an interactive coaching clinic at the local Ekvira Mitra Mandal community centre.
Ahead of the coaching clinic, Reality Gives Foundation took Hasselbaink on a tour of Dharavi, with the Chelsea legend walking around the area to learn about some of the main challenges young people face every day.
Then, with the assistance of Reality Gives, he interacted with 25 community youth leaders who were studying English at Kamraj Memorial English High School and University in Dharavi.
During the workshop, Hasselbaink talked to young leaders about the challenges he faced in his professional life and how he overcame them, and shared his experiences as a young man.
The Dutch legend then joined at-risk teenagers aged 16 to 18 from the community in an interactive coaching clinic that included fun games and drills, joined by Hasselbaink, ending on a relaxed note this day.
“The kids here are engaging with such contagious enthusiasm and it’s great to see them listening keenly to everything the coaches and I have to say during the sessions. Challenges in education and infrastructure. It was great to see them smile during the session as we hope to use the power of movement to keep them entertained. I’m glad we got to meet the kids and I hope today’s lesson sticks And inspire their future,” Hasselbaink said after his masterclass in Dharavi on Sunday.
Fans took center stage at Saturday’s Chelsea Supporters Club Football Championship at St Andrews Lawn in Bandra ahead of a community event in Dharavi, with Mumbai CISC victorious and Hasselbaink in the Watch from the sidelines. It was a dream come true for the team to take over the award from the Chelsea legend at the closing ceremony.
Hasselbaink, who scored 87 goals in 177 appearances for the Blues, was followed by a special fan viewing party at the Great Lakes. The venue was packed with Chelsea supporters who had gathered to watch the Premier League game between Chelsea and Everton. Interesting game ended 2-2.
