EDGAR BERLANGA has admitted that during their fight at the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden last night, he tried to bite Alexis Angulo’s ear.
The American won a unanimous decision over Angulo, extending his unbeaten record inside the squared circle to 20-0.
Berlanga’s victory will be remembered for a contentious incident in the seventh round that was missed by the referee.
During their fight, the 25-year-old seemed to try to bite Angulo’s ear… after the event, he admitted.
“He was flinging elbows,” he told ESPN. I was about to turn him into Mike Tyson.
“He kept shoving it out with his elbows.” I didn’t want to be dismissed.”
Berlanga got away with the incident while Tyson was disqualified for his infamous bite on Evander Holyfield.
He was probably spared punishment because he missed Angulo’s ear and instead made contact with his opponent’s shoulder.
Berlanga’s antics, however, left the combat sports world cold.
“If you bite your opponent like a rabid dog, you should be disqualified,” Lou DiBella, the promoter, wrote on Twitter.

“Berlanga’s record is more impressive than his fighting,” said Berlanga’s trainer, Teddy Atlas. “I’m resuming my UFC career.”
“I scored it 76-74 Berlanga… both lost 20 points for being awful,” said former super middleweight champion Caleb Truax.
“Berlanga sucked a smidge less than Angulo…” Truax continued.
Terence Crawford, on the other hand, thought it was hilarious and tweeted, “Lol he tried to bite him.”
Berlanga went from impressive to underwhelming, disappointing, and embarrassing in four fights, according to one fan. “Wow, that’s a big drop…”
“Berlanga is one of the worst and most unimpressive hype jobs I’ve ever seen,” another critic said. He doesn’t have any equipment with him. “Extremely bad.”
