Why did subway workers go on strike on March 15th?

London Underground workers have gone on strike for a day after the RMT claimed LUL had started to ax 600 station staff.

they also Add to Despite discussions with unions, the company has refused to rule out attacking pensions or tearing up agreements on working conditions.

“TfL’s funding has been cut by the government. But instead of confronting ministers, they’ve tried to implement the cuts and make our members pay for their funding crisis,” the union said.

The deadline for the government and TfL to agree details on pension reforms has been pushed back to March 17, but there is no word yet.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “Our members will never accept job losses, attacks on their pensions or changes to working conditions to pay for cuts to government politically decided funding.”

He added that subway workers provide “essential services to the capital,” ensuring the city can keep running and working long hours in demanding roles.

“In return, they deserve decent pensions, job security and good working conditions, and RMT will do everything in its power to ensure they get that.”
