“When I saw her in old interviews, her analysis seemed safe,” Deutsch said. “The interviewer said she was mean to so-and-so, and she said, ‘Well, you have a soft spot for her, and I don’t.’ That’s how she sees it, and she’s not afraid to say it. If it’s to make a point or to make fun of it, I don’t think she minds hurting someone. I was recently asked about Joan Didion and if Nora was going in the wrong direction.
